Glasgow Society of Painters and Sculptors
A little-known and short-lived Scottish society whose founder members included James Cowie, Archibald McGlashan and Robert Sivell. Founded in 1919, its inaugural exhibition was held on May 9th in the McLellan Galleries, Glasgow. The society was formed in response to the then perceived conservatism of the RGI and was not restricted solely to Scottish members as can be seen from other affiliates. These included Jack Yeats, J. D. Fergusson, James Lawson Constable and Jacob Kramer. Its 3rd and final exhibition appears to have taken place in 1921 at which time sculptor Benno Schotz was President.
