HARPUR Merrily 1948-2024

Cartoonist, illustrator and writer, educated at Headington School, Oxford, and Trinity College, Dublin. After a period restoring oil paintings, she became a free­lance cartoonist and writer, working for The Financial Times, The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph, Fortean Times, The Daily Mail, Private Eye, The Spectator, Country Living, The Field, and other British national publications, in Ireland for The Irish Times, The Independent and the Irish Tatler. She wrote a weekly diary column in The Times and ran weekly page-length cartoon strips in Punch magazine and The Listener. She illustrated books by authors such as Kingsley Amis, Miles Kington, Michael Frayn, and Jill Tweedie. Latterly she illustrated 'Mind Your Manners' by Robert O'Byrne, Sitric Books, Dublin, 2004. Her work is in the collection of the British Cartoon Archive.
