RIMMINGTON Eric 1926-2024

Painter of almost photographic-like still lives in a rich palette. Born in Portsmouth the son of a naval engineer, he studied at Southern College of Art, Portsmouth, 1942-44 and again after war service at the same place, 1947-49. He then furthered his studies at the Slade School of Art, 1949-52. After completing his studies, he taught at Scarborough School of Art, 1952-58 and Bradford College of Art, 1958-66, then at Birmingham School of Art and Wolverhampton Polytechnic until 1982. He held his first solo exhibition at the Lane Gallery, Bradford, in 1963, and many more followed. These include Mercury Gallery, London, Bohun, Henley-on-Thames, Leigh Underhill, London, Ecosreda, Sofia, Bulgaria, Vortex Gallery, London and the Millinery Works, London. His group shows equally as numerous include venues such as Albermarle Gallery, London, Flowers East, London, Ikon Gallery, Birmingham, Browse & Darby, London, Bury St. Edmunds Art Gallery, the Royal Academy, Wakefield Art Gallery and at the Royal Festival Hall, ‘London Spirit of London’ exhibition in 1984.

He has exhibited at the John Moores Liverpool Exhibition on several occasions. Rimmington executed public murals at Beddow Hall, Portsmouth and the Trafalgar Institute, Portsmouth. He is represented in the collections of the Museum of London, Bradford Art Gallery, Hertfordshire County Council, the Leeds University Collection, Reading Art Gallery Museum, Scarborough Art Gallery, Gulbenkian Foundation, Imperial War Museum and Wisconsin University, USA.
