Douglas Hyde Gallery
When established in 1978 the Douglas Hyde Gallery was part of Trinity College, Dublin. It became independent in 1984 and for many years was the only publically funded gallery in Ireland showing contemporary paintings. It has been long noted for its reputation of holding exhibitions by some of the most established and well-regarded Irish and international artists working today. The Gallery is well known for its publication of small books and informative exhibition catalogues that have become collectors' items. During the 1970's into the mid-1980's the Gallery also staged several IELA shows.
In November 2010 an exhibition was mounted entitled 'Holding Together' which celebrated the achievements of George Dawson and 50 years of the Trinity College Modern Art Collection. Dawson was also instrumental in the establishment of theDouglas Hyde Gallery.
Artists who have exhibited at the Gallery include Tom Carr, Patrick Collins, Barrie Cooke, Michael Craig-Martin, Felim Egan, Cecil King, John Luke, Paul McGonagle, Daniel O'Neill and Camille Souter amongst many.
