Marlborough Fine Art
Established in 1946 at 6 Albermarle Street, London WI. The gallery deals in 19th and 20th Century paintings, specializing in Old Masters and Impressionists work. At the same time, it also carries work by contemporary artists, mounting between six to eight exhibitions of their work each year. The gallery is the agent for some of the most celebrated world-renowned artists such as Frank Auerbach, Francis Bacon, R B Kitaj, Victor Pasmore and Paula Rego; it also acts as agent for the estates of Oskar Kokoschka and Graham Sutherland. There are sister galleries in New York, Madrid, Santiago, Chile and Monte Carlo.
Marlborough Fine Art and the current Marlborough Gallery should not be confused with the original Marlborough Gallery which was founded in 1888 by Martin Henry Colnaghi (1821-1908) of the art dealing Colnaghi dynasty at the premises of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours at 53 Pall Mall. The gallery closed in 1908 soon after the death of the founder.
