Museum of Modern Art, Wales

The Museum of Modern Art, Wales and The Tabernacle (Y Tabernacl) are both run by The Machynlleth Tabernacle Trust. Since The Tabernacle (formerly a Wesleyan chapel) opened in 1986 the Trust has built up a Permanent Collection of works by artists from 1900 with the emphasis on artists living or working in Wales. The Trust’s policy has been to acquire works from exhibitions in MOMA, Wales. Currently there are approximately 200 works in the collection. In 1984 Andrew Lambert bought The Tabernacle, a former Wesleyan Chapel and established the Machynlleth Tabernacle Trust. After extensive renovation The Tabernacle re-opened as a centre for the performing arts on 11th October 1986. An adjoining building was acquired but it took 5 years to raise enough money to convert it into art galleries. The first art exhibition was held in May 1992.

Artists in the collection include Diana Armfield, Anne Arnold, Graham Arnold, Peter Blake, Martyn Blundell, Roger Cecil, Ogwyn Davies, J D Innes, Peter Edwards, Cheryl Fountain, Arthur Giardelli, Christopher Hall, Josef Herman, Clive Hicks-Jenkins, Bert Isaac, Mervyn Levy, Wyndham Lewis, Peter Prendergast, Shani Rhys James, Kevin Sinnott, Claudia Williams, Evelyn Williams, Kyffin Williams, Edward Wolfe, Geoff Yoemans.
