Worcester Art Gallery

The museum was founded in 1833 by the members of the Worcestershire Natural History Society and lays claim to be one of the oldest such establishments outside London. A new building was constructed with the foundation stone being laid in 1894 opening to the public two years later. Just over a century later in 1995 the building was refurbished with the aid of a lottery grant .

The art collection includes many works by local Victorian painter Benjamin Leader and the gallery also contains a fine representation of works by 20th painters. These include paintings Alan Davie, Stanhope Forbes, Charles Ginner, Duncan Grant, Laura Knight and Bernard Meninsky. Contemporary examples are largely landscape in theme as shown in the works of Leonard McComb, Paul Feiler, Paul Noble and Willie Doherty.
