C. W. Faulkner & Co

Faulkner & Co. were a prolific manufacturer of card games as well as an art publishing business which commenced c. 1870 and lasted into the 1950’s. Charles William Faulkner was originally in the Christmas card business together with Albert Hildesheimer, (1843–1924) working as lithographers and printing in gravure which is an intaglio printing process, involving engraving an image onto a rotating copper cylinder. In 1885 the partnership ended with Faulkner taking over the business, becoming a limited company in 1905. They published several family card games illustrated by well-known artists of the day, including Ethel Parkinson, Ivy James, Alice West and Albert Ernest Kennedy to name but a few. Faulkner also produced all types of calendars, Christmas and New Year cards, birthday cards, motto cards, Diaries and storybooks. Many of their cards were printed in Germany and Austria.
