Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art

This contemporary gallery, located in an industrial town on the north-east coast of the United Kingdom is a comparatively new establishment. Defunct in 1996 as an art gallery it reopened in 2007 as MIMA or to give its official title Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art emphasising its dedication to both modern and contemporary art. Seven years after its official opening took place at the end of January 2007 it became part of Teesside University.

The collection houses an outstanding collection of items many having been acquired from Middlesbrough Art Gallery. Artists represented include Elizabeth Blackadder, Ken Currie, John Emanuel, Jacob Epstein, Elisabeth Frink, Kevin Geary, David Hockney, Simon Lewty, Euphemia MacTavish, Eduardo Paolozzi, Peter Philip, Anne Redpath, Paula Rego, Len Tabner, Anita Taylor, Paul Thomas and Shelagh Wakely.
