Accrington School of Art
It was first noted circa December 1862 when it was mentioned as the Burnley and Accrington Schools of Art. The results of the examinations were received from the Department of Education and announced in the Burnley Gazette of 18 January 1863. The School was next noted in the Lancashire Evening Post of 19th January 1887 when a meeting at the Mechanics' Institute took place for a presentation to the assistant master Mr. Albert Priestley on his marriage and his departure to India. In the 1980's the Accrington School of Art merged into the Accrington and Rossendale College. In 1996 the 'independent' art department ceased to exist.
