Camden School of Art
Camden School was founded in 1881 in Parkhurst Road, Holloway, and was relocated in 1889 to Dalmeny Avenue, Camden Road. It was headed for many years by Francis Black and then by W. G. Thomas, previously the Principal of the Battersea Polytechnic School of Art. The School fell under the auspices of the London County Council in 1903 and soon built a reputation for its arts and crafts notably for jewellery and silversmithing as well as graphic design and printmaking. In its early days' illumination, bookbinding, embroidery, woodcarving and gilding, cabinet-making and even piano making were taught at the Camden School. In the early year of the 20th century, there was in north London a thriving piano manufacturing industry the technology of which was also on the school curriculum. Camden School of Art was dissolved in 1994. Sydney, Australia and Alabama, United States of America both have similarly named establishments which are not related.
