Leamington Spa School of Art

The School of Art which was located at Beauchamp Hill, Leamington Spa was founded in 1866 and was run by the local Philosophical Society until 1877 when it came under the control of the Free Library Committee. Classes were offered at the Town Hall, but a lack of public interest caused the school to close in 1886. The closure was only temporary and it was running again by 1889 and showing nearly 200 registered students within two years. In 1902 the newly completed Municipal Schools and Public Library building provided space for the School where it remained until 1940 when it relocated to Beauchamp Hill. In 1955 it was renamed MidWarwickshire School of Art and in 1996 the School merged with the Technical School to become known as the Mid-Warwickshire College.
