Malvern School of Art

Established in 1886, Malvern School of Art appeared to rival local art schools in nearby Worcester, Kidderminster, Dudley and Stourbridge. However, the newly established School was not intended to serve 'industrial production' was designed to create ‘mental improvement and social pleasure’ for its students.

In 1907 Illingworth Varley the father of the Varley sisters was appointed as headmaster. A new Malvern Technical College and School of Art opened in 1928 which by the 1960's became known as Malvern College of Further Education and then Malvern Hills College. A merger with Evesham College in 2000 created the Malvern campus for Evesham and Malvern Hills College, renamed South Worcestershire College in 2009. In 2016 the college merged with Warwickshire College Group but was closed in 2020. A new school, Malvern Hills Arts and Community College was due to open in 2023. Alumni included Principal Victor Hume Moody, his daughter Catherine Moody, Barbara Bridgwater and Emmy Dinkel.
