Salford School of Art

The history of the School can trace its origins back to the mid-19th century and began life in 1858 as part of the expansion of art education in the industrial cities of Northern England. The school aimed to provide technical and artistic training to meet the demands of a rapidly growing industrial economy. It offered courses in design, drawing, and applied arts and included courses in architecture and decorative arts. Little changed until the 1970's when the School was integrated into the University of Salford which continues to thrive, offering undergraduate and postgraduate programs in various disciplines such as fine arts, design, digital arts, and media. Alumni have included L. S. Lowry, Jack Crabtree and renowned graphic designers Tom Eckersley and Eric Lombers
