Worcester School of Art

Worcester School of Art, also originally known as the Government School of Design was established in 1851. In 1860 the Victoria Institute was proposed as a central establishment housing public libraries, newsrooms, museums, art, science and technical schools, and a public art gallery. The 'Institute' was eventually opened in 1888 and served as the headquarters of the School of Art until 1962 when it was relocated to nearby Deansway. In 1991, the art school became part of Worcester College of Technology. In 2014 Worcester College and New College merged to form the Heart of Worcestershire College. Alumni and staff have included William Barribal, George Chapman and Leonard Pike.
