56 Group

This group of artists restricted at any one time to only 22 members was founded in 1956 hence the title. The founders simply became aware that there were very few openings for artists to exhibit contemporary art in Wales at that time and decided to do something about it. Since its formation the Group has constantly exhibited current work throughout the entire British Isles and Ireland, in Europe and North America. Members past and present include, Arthur Giardelli, Clive Hicks-Jenkins, John Selway, Tom Cross, Alistair Crawford, and David Tinker.
