Scottish Arts Council

The Scottish Arts Council based in Edinburgh is a Scottish public body responsible for the distribution of funding from the Scottish Government in respect of the visual arts in all its forms. The Scottish Arts Council was formed in 1994 following the restructuring of the then all-encompassing Arts Council of Great Britain, but had existed as an autonomous body since being granted a Royal Charter of 1967. The art departments of many Scottish schools and other academic institutions have profited considerably from funding and resources provided by the SAC. A number of talented young Scottish artists have risen to prominence through the use of amenities and resources that have been provided by the Scottish Arts Council. In return, their work has had a marked effect on an explosion of the arts throughout Scotland and the rest of the world.
