Society of Portrait Sculptors
Founded in 1953, as yet no history of the Society has been produced. The Society's aims are simply to make portrait and figurative sculpture accessible to a wider public. The Society holds an Annual Open Exhibition usually in May or June at The Gallery in Cork Street, London. In all approximately 70 sculptures are exhibited. About one third are chosen from open submission from non-members and the balance from elected members. Well-known founder members include Dora Gordine, Josefina de Vasconcellos, Charles Wheeler, Jacob Epstein, Franta Belsky. Current members and exhibitors include David Backhouse, Ian Rank-Broadley and James Butler.
