Wharfedale Group
This Group also referred to as the Wharfedale Group of Artists and the Wharfedale Group of Painters arose c. 1925 in the Craven district of North Yorkshire. There was to knowledge no official ‘founder’ but members included Reginald Brundit who was perhaps the unwitting instigator. It was in the countryside that the group found inspiration from the beauty of the hills and meadows where they regularly painted. Other group attendees included John Smith Atherton, Frank Ellis Horne, Kershaw Schofield and authors and occasional painters Cutliffe Hyne, (1866-1944) and Halliwell Sutcliffe, (1870-1932). Most of the participants of the Group had died or moved away before the end of World War II and the Wharfedale Group of Artists as such ceased to exist.
