Royal Institute of Oil Painters
The Institute was founded in 1882 and holds an annual exhibition at the Mall Galleries which is open to all artists, subject to selection. It was granted Royal Status by King Edward VII in 1909 and membership is restricted to 65 persons. Past exhibitors included Lawrence Alma-Tadema, Walter Sickert, Laura Knight, Henri Fantin-Latour, John Collier, Auguste Rodin and more recently Anne Redpath. This institute is one of the nine-member societies forming the Federation of British Artists. The Institute's archive is housed in the V&A.
