ACKROYD Norman 1938-2024

Printmaker and etcher, born in Leeds, who studied at Leeds College of Art, 1957-61 and later at the RCA, 1961-64. He taught printmaking at Manchester College of Art and Design and has lectured extensively in the UK and abroad. A prolific worker he has exhibited regularly in such galleries as London Arts Gallery, Anderson O'Day and Aitken & Dott.

In 1988 he was elected an Associate of the RA and a full member three years later. Ackroyd won several awards at Bradford International Print Biennale, 1972 and 1982, RE in 1984 and 1985, at Frechen Triennale, in Germany, in 1986. He has held dozens of solo exhibitions, including Anderson O'Day, Aitken & Dott, Edinburgh, Jersey Arts Centre, Channel Islands, Compass Gallery, Glasgow, Park Square Gallery, Leeds and abroad. The V&A, BC, Leeds Art Gallery, Museums Sheffield, Paintings in Hospitals, Warwick University Art Collection, Stirling University Art Collection and provincial British galleries hold his work. His daughter Poppy Acroyd, (b. 1982) is a noted musician.
